Rural Edge Acquires Father’s House Property, Quickly Converts Space Into Homeless Shelter

Future site of shelter

RuralEdge has secured $742,396 in funding to convert a former church on Moose River Drive in St. Johnsbury into a homeless shelter, with construction starting on November 1 and progressing rapidly towards completion. The shelter, which will feature 17 sleeping units and a 20-bed capacity, will be staffed by Northeast Kingdom Community Action, which is currently seeking to hire staff to operate the facility around the clock. With a total project cost of about $800,000, community partners are collaborating to ensure the shelter opens as soon as possible.
