Evernorth and RuralEdge were joined by community members, funders and local elected officials on Friday afternoon to celebrate newly renovated buildings and significant progress to a newly constructed building on Burkeland Lane.
Beginning on November 3, 2022 and continuing through February 2023, the four public speaking events will explore the roots of racial discrimination in housing policy and practices; the ways current systems continue to reinforce oppressive practices; the real impacts of racial inequity on daily life and economic well-being; and new efforts and ideas that can help to change the tide. The goal of the initiative is to identify actions on policy, programmatic and cultural levels to expand access to affordable housing for all Vermonters.

SAINT JOHNSBURY—On January 26th, the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board (VHCB) awarded RuralEdge $1.4 Million to acquire and rehabilitate two vacant properties in St. Johnsbury, 138 Cherry Street & 759 Railroad Street, into seven units of permanent affordable housing.

Last week, RuralEdge purchased the Brightlook Apartments in an effort to preserve the affordability of 18 units of housing in St. Johnsbury with the assistance of funding from the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board and financing from the Vermont Community Loan Fund.
On Thursday, Governor Scott announced that RuralEdge, the premier developer of affordable housing in the Northeast Kingdom, was one of five organizations that received a $309,490 Community Development CARES Act Housing Stabilization Program award.

RuralEdge sees the SASH Program as integral to its mission and has been seeking ways to expand its geographical reach, especially to rural Essex County. Thanks to the generosity of the Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, RuralEdge received funding to bring SASH to Canaan for the next two years.
Nearly one year into the substantial rehabilitation work on the former Depot Square Apartments, now known as New Avenue, the project has brought substantial changes to the building and to the community it will once again serve.
